Gullah Rag Rug Workshop with Quilter Artist and Designer Cookie Washington

Join Quilter Artist and Keeper of the Culture, Cookie Washington for a Gullah Rag Rug class. Washington will provide an interactive demonstration of Rag Rug technique honoring Gullah artist Sharon Cooper-Murray “The Gullah Lady.” Passed down generation by generation, this technique traditionally combined feed and grain sacks with rag strips to make unique quilts.

This is a four-hour “no sew” class utilizing special tools. Participants will each receive their own 9×9 inch square of burlap and will also contribute to a community rug. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch and/or snacks.

Tickets are all-inclusive and include:

  • Base Fabric
  • Sub-cut African print fabrics and neutral color muslin or broadcloth

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring additional bits of clothing.
